Transport
We work towards achieving a sustainable travel infrastructure that works well for everyone – people on foot, on cycles, in motorised vehicles and on public transport. We believe transport issues are inextricably linked to development proposals.
We comment on and influence strategic plans, the most recent being Oxfordshire’s LTP4, and local public transport arrangements such as timetables, routes and bus stops.
Cycling
We work with national and local cycling organisations such as Sustrans and Cyclox to promote responsible cycling, cycling safety and the provision of proper facilities to make cycling a more attractive option in the city. There has been added impetus to the promotion of cycling and walking as an ‘active travel’ mode as a result of the transfer of Public Health responsibilities from the NHS to County Councils, who now have a statutory interest in the contribution to health and well-being resulting from increased exercise.
Walking
We support and work with the Oxford Pedestrians Association (OxPA) to make it easier to get around Oxford on foot. See also Streets for People and Walks in Oxford.
