OCS Grant Scheme

Grants

Oxford Civic Society is able to fund one-off grants of up to £500 for projects run by organisations. Grants are not available to individuals. The projects must further the Society’s charitable objects, which can be summarised as follows:

“Oxford Civic Society is dedicated to ever improving Oxford as a city and area for people to live, work, and relax. We are inspired by the needs and wants of our members and the community as a whole. We focus on the well-being and engagement of communities, and their interactions with the city’s environment, and appreciation of the past, the present and continuity into the future are fundamental.”

More detailed information on the Society’s constitution and charitable objects can be found by on the Governance page.

The organisations eligible for a grant are:

  • voluntary and community organisations;
  • registered charities;
  • constituted groups and clubs;
  • social enterprises, and
  • organisations having an educational purpose.

Grant applications must be made on the OCS grant application form at least eight weeks before a project is due to start. Decisions will normally be made within six weeks of a valid application form being received.

Criteria and procedures:

  • The application must have an identifiable impact on the community which furthers the Society’s charitable objects.
  • The grant is limited to £500 (which may be exceeded only in exceptional circumstances) and cannot be retrospective.
  • Applicants may be asked to meet representatives of OCS to explain their application.
  • The contribution of OCS must be acknowledged on an all written material relating to the project.
  • An award will be conditional upon (a) monitoring and reporting requirements which will be specified in the grant award letter and (b) a post-completion report assessing its impact on the community. These will be binding conditions of grant.

If you have an idea for a project which you would like to initiate, please email the Society or speak to any member of the OCS Executive Committee. When you are ready we will give you a link to an online application form.
