This application concerns a new dwelling proposed to be built to front onto Alhambra Lane, a narrow mews street recently the subject of many applications. The County Council comment that the location is suitable for “car free” development subject to its removal from eligibility to the Controlled Parking Zone. But the County fail to notice that the new house would have access only from Alhambra Lane, requiring access by refuse vehicles and emergency vehicles to be from Alhambra Lane. Given the narrow nature of the Lane this arrangement is in practical terms unsuitable and probably unworkable. We advise rejection of this application.
