Kate Joyce : Funeral on 23rd January 2018

8 January 2017

Kate Joyce

With sadness and deep regret we report the death of Kate Joyce. Kate died peacefully early in the morning of January 3rd.

Kate made an immense contribution to the work of the Oxford Civic Society, not least in her role as Convenor and Secretary to the Planning Group, a job she filled for nearly 20 years. She brought balance and objectivity to her work, achieving consensus across sometimes diverse opinions in her own quiet and effective way.

Kate (then Kate Miller) was also a long-serving member of the Executive of the Civic Society from the mid-nineties, as was Tony Joyce. To the delight of all they married in 2006 when Tony was Chairman. Kate continued to accompany Tony to Executive meetings until the last few months, when debilitating illness severely restricted her mobility.

Kate was the epitome of a caring, compassionate and unassuming contributor, not just to the Oxford Civic Society but to many other organisations and to the whole community of Oxford. She was loved and admired by all and her passing will sadden all who knew her. Oxford Civic Society offers Tony and his family our most heartfelt condolences and sympathy.

The funeral service will be at the Friends Meeting House, 43 St Giles OX1 3LW on Tuesday 23rd January at 11am followed by refreshments at 68 Blenheim Drive. There will also be a memorial meeting later in the spring.
