The houses in Stratford Street are, like many others in Oxford, narrow terraced dwellings. Enlarging these inevitable involves ‘garden creep’, building on further and further down the garden. This lengthy extension would establish a precedent in the street. It must be decided: at what point should a halt be called? If family houses’ amenity spaces are to be eaten away at in this way, there could eventually be none left.
