8 High Street Oxford Oxfordshire OX1 4AB

Proposed alterations to existing shop front and   Display of 1no. non-illuminated fascia sign.

Although we believe that the change of the existing wood shop front to a powdered coated aluminum frame is acceptable, we consider the multi-coloured facia lettering, with additional decoration of what appears to be sweets, is totally unacceptable in relation to the adjoining shops in the context of the historic centre of Oxford.  The Jack Wills shop front to the left of 8 High Street has recently been changed to a very elegant design and the Whistles front to the right is a simple restrained design.

The proposed lettering on the non-illuminated fascia sign will strike a very jarring and unacceptable contrast between these two shop fronts. It in no way enhances and improves the host building and wider conservation area, as claimed in the Conclusion of the Design and Access statement.

As the American Candy Club does not appear to have any other shops at present in the United Kingdom there can be no precedent for this design of the lettering. We strongly believe this application should be rejected.
