Bardwell Court Bardwell Road Oxford Oxfordshire OX2 6SX

3 November 2017

 | Partial demolition of existing building, alteration and extension to create a new link, rear extension and provision of bin and cycle stores. Removal of trees and landscaping. (amended plans) |

Although it is evident that Bardwell Court is in need of a comprehensive overhaul, the site is in a conservation area, and is closely surrounded by many dwellings which will be affected by these development proposals. The proposals are inconsistent with others consented locally and there appears to have been little consultation with those who would be closely affected, for example by the proposals for terraces. The facade, at least, of the link between Nos 17 and 16, apart from the unfortunate entrance porch, should be retained; materials such as copper and glass, whilst successful in some other parts of Oxford, simply do not fit into the character of this range of domestic buildings or this streetscape. No details are provided of landscaping proposals. This application should be refused pending more careful consideration.
