St Peters College New Inn Hall Street Oxford OX1 2DL

19 January 2018

Installation of flag pole to the North-East elevation.

Placement of a flag pole in the centre of the main façade of the college is unusual (for Oxford) and detracts from the clean lines of this Georgian building.  It is unclear why placement of a flag in this position provides clearer identification of the building than the coat of arms currently placed over the entrance. The design statement cites ‘identifying the building’ but this is already provided.  Oxford Civic Society request that the college reconsider the location of the flag pole to the roof or on the North or South wing of the building facing New Inn Hall Street.   It is noted that the flag pole is currently located atop the tower of the Chapel.
