Grove House 44 Iffley Turn Oxford OX4 4DU

27 November 2017

Erection of part single, part two storey building to create 1 x 2-bed dwelling-house (Use Class C3)

This current application proposes an understated ‘modern’ detached house, removed from the main house, and offers a sensible alternative to the earlier proposal (16/01894/FUL) to demolish the Rotunda with its ‘Regency’ whimsy (albeit apparently from the 1960’s, rather than the early 1800’s as originally listed) and to build a new ‘rotunda’ of doubtful merit on the site of the original.

However, in realizing the new proposal it would be regrettable if the yew tree immediately adjacent to the proposed building could not be retained by a slight revision of the plan/siting. The tree is described in the submitted tree survey as “Located on rear west boundary. Useful screening. Desirable to retain. Pleasant feature at rear of the site.”

Oxford Civic Society recommend this issue be taken up with the applicant.
