St Aldate’s proposal for a non-illuminated banner is really an advertising hoarding for Alpha.org. It does not give useful information to passers-by. It is not advertising an exhibition or indicating that Alpha sessions are going to be held in the church, although presumably they are. It is in any case redundant as they already have a slightly smaller version of the same banner over the entrance lobby of the church. Do they have planning permission for that banner? The application does not say how long they want to display the sign for. The sign would be out of character in the historic centre of the city. Planning permission should not be given to display the banner
